Sultry singer-songwriter, Era’Nay, is an emerging young artist with an old soul from Louisville, KY. Channeling female R&B powerhouse vocalists like Toni Braxton and Patti Labelle, Era’Nay’s songs preserve a classic sound while adding a fresh vulnerability that is reminiscent of artists like H.E.R. She writes candidly about love and loss, questioning every thought and belief, in order to open the window for her most authentic self to shine through. She has released several tracks with Carter’s Music Group, and her latest single, “Farewell”, is a stripped down ballad that speaks to the grief so many of us are experiencing every year. Throughout the song, Era’Nay’s emotive and soulful vocals reflect on the loss of a loved one; as she wonders if the words “I Love You” were spoken often enough.
Fifth track Chances, from EP Elevate, has already been released as a single and it’s easy to see why. An understated but very classy R&B track, Era’ Nay gives a nuanced vocal performance which is both emotive and restrained. The track allows her to perform some Beyoncé-style vocal gymnastics whilst the simple but very effective title hook quickly lodges in the memory.
“Chances” is much more about self-love & the courage to stand up for what it is you need in a relationship. This song is a chill, mid-tempo R&B song with a moody vibe. The Princess of R&B Soul's soft and sultry voice set over an ambient beat, Era’Nay reflects on her tendency to overlook others’ flaws in romantic relationships. The instrumentation and Era’Nay’s voice gradually and gently builds with a few stand-out vocal moments that emphasize her strength as she evolves.
Sounds like: Summer Walker, Aaliyah
